    After season 2 the show jumped the shark so badly, there is no sugarcoating it. Everything was going downhill from season to season after that – with a desperatley bad final episode.

    “If you are watching the show for the answers to your mysteries, you are not going to like the ending”. Well, I was because that’s usually what people want Damon. That statement should be repeated to every fanboy that defends the show. It was a great show that ended up sucking because we all found out it was about nothing.

    This is a great show. Watched it back when it was running and I just watched it now with my mums first time and she loved it. Binge watched it over a 2-week period. She couldn’t get enough, she would constantly ask me each day Hey, are we going to watch Lost see what John Locke is doing haha.
    Great story, great show. Much to take in and puzzle to put together towards the end. But one thing gets to me – one thing among many that got to me to be honest. Jacobs Brother, the un-named one. I feel for him. I feel like he was hard done by. His mother was murdered at birth, he’s raised by said murderer and told he cannot leave the island and that everyone else is evil. He only wanted to leave the island and learn about the world. I dont see what is wrong with that. When he gets the chance to leave, his murdering “Mother” steps in, knocks him out and proceeds to murder his people.
    I dont understand why the un-named one was always seen as the evil one.

    I watched it in intervals, and it really wasn’t that interesting . I believe it was made in such a way viewers would have to become absorbed with the story like a carrot on a string. It’s a nice thought, but the entire series did not connect with me, and that is what was required. If I had a better understand of the soul on the show, maybe I would have put more energy into it. To me, the black smoke meant nothing, and I felt stupid watching black smoke as the story line.
    The question is am I a dumbass, or did the story fail to make its self known to me.

    Everything that happened, happened – they were on the island it was all real. The flashbacks were real, giving backgrounds to many characters. The flash forwards were real, giving us information and revealing certain things within the plot. Then there were the flash sideways – these were introduced in the final season. Here the characters are dead – only in the flash sideways.

    The flash sideways introduced a metaphysical realm where the main characters, after their deaths, found each other and grappled with unresolved issues from their lives. This purgatory-like space allowed them to remember the people they loved most, leading to a shared understanding of their experiences on the island. Essentially, the flash sideways was a collective dream-like experience where the characters could find closure and move on together.

    The final scene in the final episode in the church, this is when they are dead. The all lived their lives, were on the island when they left the island the carried on and lived out there lives (not those who died on the island). They all died at different times but in the church-afterlife world time does not exist, they all meet at the same time despite have died at different times. They the move on together.

    A lot of good moments and story arcs, but too clever for its own good ultimately. The makers were absolutely winging it by the end. Watchable and decent – and very annoying – characters, but they were at it all along.

    Lost the plot
    Lost the script
    Lost their focus
    Lost their chance of creating a masterpiece

    The show that will capture your attention from the first minute, and touch on literary and philosophical classics, but will also have you wondering “was there a writer’s strike?”

    Most are derived from the bible. Metaphorical representation. Warning, long comment below. I made a theoretical conversation with chat, here’s the response:

    ~Jacob and Claudia(Mother)~
    -In Lost, Jacob is one of the central figures representing the mystical struggle over the island’s fate. Like the biblical Jacob, the Lost character has a sibling rivalry, as he battles with his twin brother, the Man in Black.
    -Claudia, Jacob’s mother, is also a character in Lost. She is revealed in the episode “Across the Sea” to be the biological mother of Jacob and the Man in Black. Her murder by their adoptive mother sets the stage for the twins’ eventual conflict, mirroring biblical family dynamics of betrayal and power struggles.

    ~Christian Shephard~
    -Christian Shephard, Jack’s father, plays a pivotal role in the spiritual and emotional arcs of Lost. His name alone evokes strong religious and symbolic connotations (Christian = Christ-like, Shephard = Shepherd of souls). In the final episodes, Christian explains the afterlife concept to Jack, making him a guide or fatherly figure for the characters’ spiritual awakening.
    -The name ties into themes of forgiveness, redemption, and leadership.

    ~Connections to Biblical Symbolism~
    -The creators of Lost deliberately embedded biblical themes, names, and archetypes:
    -The idea of an island as a place of trials and transformation echoes stories like the wilderness in biblical texts.
    Jacob’s role as a protector and the Man in Black’s opposition echoes the biblical duality between good and evil.
    -Claudia’s brief but impactful presence connects to larger themes of legacy and familial bonds.

    ~Thematic Alignment~
    -Observations about these names and roles show how Lost uses religious, mythological, and literary references to deepen its storytelling. These parallels between Lost and biblical figures like Jacob, Claudia, and Christian Shephard highlight the show’s focus on fate, free will, and spiritual journeys.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~Jacob~
    -Biblical Jacob: A patriarch in the Bible, Jacob is associated with themes of destiny, sibling rivalry (with Esau), and being chosen by God despite his flaws.
    -Lost Jacob: He serves as the island’s protector, overseeing the lives of those brought to the island and representing good in a duality with his brother (the Man in Black). This mirrors the biblical Jacob’s spiritual struggles and significant role in God’s plan.
    ~Claudia~
    -Biblical Claudia: In 2 Timothy 4:21, Claudia is a minor figure, but the name carries historical connotations of nobility or influence.
    -Lost Claudia: She is the biological mother of Jacob and the Man in Black. Her murder sparks the foundational conflict between her sons, symbolizing the original fracture in the island’s mythology.
    ~Christian Shephard~
    Biblical Symbolism: His name directly evokes Christ (“Christian”) and the shepherd imagery often associated with Jesus as the “good shepherd” who guides souls.
    Lost Christian: As Jack’s father, he is a flawed but influential figure. In the finale, Christian serves as a spiritual guide in the afterlife, helping the characters “move on.”
    ~John Locke~
    Biblical Connection: While the name more directly references the philosopher John Locke, the biblical John (the Baptist) was a forerunner who prepared the way for Jesus. Locke’s role in Lost as a spiritual leader and one who brings others to faith reflects this symbolism.
    ~Aaron~
    Biblical Aaron: Moses’ brother and a high priest who played a significant role in guiding the Israelites.
    Lost Aaron: Claire’s son, Aaron, is a symbol of hope and innocence. His role echoes the importance of lineage and leadership in biblical stories.
    ~Ben Linus~
    Biblical Benjamin: The youngest son of Jacob, Benjamin was favored but also the center of tensions among the brothers. His name means “son of the right hand,” often associated with power.
    Lost Ben: A manipulative leader of the Others, Ben has a complex moral arc that involves seeking favor, redemption, and power struggles—mirroring the themes of betrayal and favor surrounding Benjamin.
    ~Eloise Hawking~
    Biblical Eli (Eloise): Eli was a high priest who oversaw Samuel, an important prophet. He had both wisdom and flaws.
    Lost Eloise: Eloise has knowledge of time and fate, guiding characters toward their destinies with both wisdom and ruthlessness.
    ~Daniel Faraday~
    Biblical Daniel: A prophet known for interpreting dreams and visions, providing guidance in troubling times.
    Lost Daniel: A physicist deeply involved in interpreting the mysteries of time travel and the island, offering intellectual and spiritual insight.
    ~Desmond Hume~
    Biblical Desmond (Meaning): While not directly biblical, “Desmond” derives from “South Munster,” but the character parallels a Jonah-like journey of survival and being chosen for a higher purpose (e.g., his role in pushing the button and his immunity to electromagnetic forces).
    Lost Desmond: He is a Christ-like figure in the narrative, with sacrificial elements and a destiny intertwined with saving others.
    ~Naomi~
    Biblical Naomi: In the Book of Ruth, Naomi is a wise and caring figure who faces suffering and loss but ultimately finds redemption.
    Lost Naomi: A member of the freighter crew, her arrival signals a shift in the survivors’ hope of rescue, but her death complicates their trust in outsiders.
    ~Juliet~
    Biblical Juliet (Uncommon): There’s no direct biblical Juliet, but her name can be linked to themes of sacrifice and love, akin to biblical stories of loyal women.
    Lost Juliet: A character torn between loyalty to the Others and the survivors, Juliet sacrifices herself for the greater good, embodying themes of redemption and love.
    ~Hurley (Hugo Reyes)~
    Biblical Hugo (Connection): The name “Hugo” is derived from “mind” or “spirit,” and while there’s no direct biblical figure, Hurley often serves as the heart and conscience of the survivors.
    Lost Hurley: As a successor to Jacob, Hurley represents the everyman who brings compassion, humor, and balance to the island’s mystical role.
